Mournful and melancholy from the off, this release from Light Of The Night is one for the liquid heads. "Rain Tears", with its rom com connotations and cinematic intro, pairs piano keys in the minor key with rattling breaks, chopped up repeated vocal and yearning instrumentals. "Feel The Difference" (feat Hit n Run) is a deeper cut with bass, horns and a sense of enormity to the emotion. Schematic steps up with a beautiful four tracker on Liquid Brilliants. Evocatively entitled the Mellifluous EP, first track "Wherever I Am" is a flurry of flutes, ticking breaks and floaty, dream-like atmospherics. And so the tone is set for the rest of the EP. "Memory", a slightly edgier piece, with rolling beats, murmuring bass and bongo pattering steps things up, before "Curves", a punchier, vocal-led beast kicks in with rough drums and grumbling subs. Calibre - Hummer EP

Samurai Red Seal get massive props for this release, which sees four more examples of Calibre's diverse approach to the art of D&B. The title track is pure steppahs delight, rising from the ether into rigid upright syncopation until a vintage junglist bassline comes soaring in, whilst "Dogshit" is anything but, with intricately layered beats fighting through the dystopian fuzz. The music matters just as much on the final two tunes, with the slick arrangements demonstrated on "Touch Me" and "Free My Mind" bound to satisfy the old skool heads, the former in particular thanks to dazzling array of amen filled rhythms.

Rinse FM DJ and all round star, Marco Del Horno teams up with Emi Green and releases "This Town Is Ours" with an enormous remix package featuring SPY, Dream, Kavsrave, Bondax, Last Japan v Skanky plus an acoustic and instrumental version of the original. Defiant tones, stern beats and rude grime lyrics dominate the original but then SPY adds trademark liquid sparkle with true D&B finesse, with soaring strings and rolling breaks, whilst the Dream remix is a Doctor P screech special and Kavsrave's an uber cool re-lick. Bondax's is a pumping 4/4 mix with reverberating vox and hissing beats and Last Japan vs Skanky's version is a rolling viber to finish things off.

Such Unimportant Things Like Us is ICR's most mature (and probably his final) drum and bass work to date, incorporating the very essence of his love of precisious drumworks and sensual musicality. The album is built around one topic that can be easily read out from the titles: it's about love and struggle for acceptance. As with this final chapter he closes his dnb roots, a new stage is already set: To Make Right What's Left is a necessary step forward, focused on 4/4 territory and other mid-tempo genres. The trademark deep and cinematic ICR sound remains the same, but in new forms. The double album is the best way to gain insight ICR's mind and soul thru his forward-thinking music in full spectre.
